Some 4,620 transplants were carried out in France in 2008. The number of donors stabilised at 24.6 donations per million inhabitants.

These encouraging results must not however conceal the growing need for organs for transplant that the rise in activity does not cover.

In 2008, 13,687 people required an organ transplant and 222 patients died as they did not receive a transplant on time.

The families' refusal rate is approximately 30% which is stable.
